Meet Bill Meyers from SUNY Geneseo

Bill Meyers has been with SUNY Geneseo for 25 years.

In his time at SUNY Geneseo his main areas of responsibility include  Classroom Technology Support; classroom A/V systems design, installation & maintenance; Technical support for their TV production facility; Technical Support for live streaming of Commencement, Convocation, and other Campus Special Events; (now) Zoom support also.

Bill received his Bachelor of Sciences from SUNY Fredonia. Some other experiences he has had are being a Radio/TV Engineer for 10 years prior to coming to work at Geneseo in 1996.

Bill’s other interests are Model Railroading, running & biking.

Meet Christopher C. Taverna from SUNY Fredonia

Christopher C. Taverna has been with SUNY Fredonia for 20 years. In his time at Fredonia he has been a part of several departments within Information Technology Services and the Professional Development Center. He is currently a training specialist in the Accessibility and Collaborative Technology department of ITS, where in addition to providing various IT trainings to the faculty and staff of Fredonia he administers the campus implementations of Confluence, Digital Measures, and Zoom. 

He is also the President of the Fredonia Chapter of United University Professions, the Chair of the Faculty and Professional Affairs Committee (a standing committee of the Fredonia University Senate), a Senator of the Fredonia University Senate, the Advisory Council Chair of the Chi Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, and the Secretary of the Educational Technology Officers Association of SUNY. 

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from SUNY Fredonia and is a member of the Chautauqua Leadership Network class of 2020. 

Outside of work Chris enjoys leadership development, public speaking, occasionally delivering sermons to his local congregation, and running a business with his wife. 

Chris lives in Fredonia with his wife and three children. 

Meet Steve Perta from SUNY Polytechnic Institute

Steve Perta has been with the SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica-Rome (previously known as SUNYIT, SUNY Institute of Technology, SUNY College of Technology, & SUNY Utica-Rome) going on 33 years.  In this capacity Steve serves as an Associate for Instructional Resources and Chief Engineer responsible for Design, Purchasing, Installation, Implementation, Operation, Documentation, surrounding campus Classroom Technology,  Television Studio & Control Room, Satellite Transmission/Reception, Distance Learning Videoconferencing Systems, Microwave Link, Cable TV System, Sound reinforcement and image projection, Digital Signage, Computer Graphics Station, Media Duplication and Department LAN.

He holds an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology from MVCC, a BS Degree in Electrical Technology from SUNY College of Technology and a Masters Degree in Telecommunications from SUNYIT.

He serves on many campus committees including Elected Chairperson of the SUNY Poly Utica Campus Staff Assembly, Parking Violations Appeals Board Chair, Campus Events Committee, Member,  UUP Chapter Treasurer and Professional Delegate,  Utica City School District Educational Television Channel Advisory Board, Member,  SUNY POLY Governance Council-at large member, SUNY POLY Technology Committee Member,  SUNY POLY Distance Learning Committee Member, and JLMC Individual Development Awards Committee.

He is a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service and has been recognized with the numerous other campus awards.

Steve serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mohawk Valley Federal Credit Union which serves state employees.

Steve is a Pilot and aircraft owner with over 2000 hours command pilot time and a Lt Colonel in the US Air Force Auxiliary where he had held numerous command positions over 40+ years.  He is a Lead Representative FAA Safety Team-Albany Flight Standards District Office, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Experimental Aircraft Association and Fraternal Order of the Quiet Birdmen.

Steve is also a Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator and member of the Mohawk Motorcades Automobile Club.  He and his wife Colleen reside in Rome, NY.

Meet Laurie Fox from SUNY Geneseo!

Main areas of responsibility: Director of Educational Technology. Lead 6 professional staff in Classroom Technology and support, LMS (Canvas) Administration and Instructional Design, Performance Venue technical direction, support and training on digital tools for instruction
Other Experience: Past roles at Geneseo and other companies include Support Services management, desktop support, and network analyst
Other interests: Reading, creating, and music (I am also a church organist!)

Meet Mark English from SUNY Oneonta!

Main areas of responsibility: Design, installation, and maintenance of all learning space technology.

Meet Pete Houghton of SCCC!

Name: Pete Houghton

Campus: SUNY Schenectady County Community College

Years with SUNY: 45

Degree: AAS in Audio Visual Communications from SUNY Alfred

Main areas of responsibility: Since 2011 I have been handling special events and classroom technology. When I started at SCCC we had 1/4″ reel audio tape, 1″ & 1/2″ reel video. 16mm film and overhead projectors.

Other Experience: I’ve been a regional rep for EdTOA, as well as Chair. I’ve served on the SUNY Technology Conference Planning Committee since 1996.

Other Interests: I also do sound for a bluegrass band (https://threequarternorth.com/). We were on the bill for a Pete Seeger, Clearwater fund raiser this past weekend at The Linda in Albany. Many, many years ago I worked with another local band called Fire in the Kitchen and prior to that, Natches Trace. Mixing music is on the top of my list of things I love to do!
